Zimbabwe is currently under a 21 day lockdown, effective from 30th March, to try and curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). So far, there are only eleven confirmed cases of the virus in Zimbabwe, and three deaths.
For lower income families, this lockdown presents a challenge in them not being able to work nor afford to buy food in bulk. Our 111 sponsored children who currently live in poverty, the situation is made worse due to lack of electricity and water. They are also not able to attend school where it was a place of solace for most.
The K.U.K Alliance team has worked really hard to source and secure food hampers for the children so that we help make the situation slightly better especially as we enter the Easter weekend. We have stepped in and obtained 100 food hampers for the families of our children.
Delivery is scheduled for Good Friday.
We are thankful to our supplier, Fresh Express, for sourcing the hamper items at such a difficult time. We also would like to thank our partner organisation, Ndaiziva Capacity Development for their hard work in arranging the logistics.
Each hamper has:
10kg maize meal
Peanut butter
2ltr Cooking oil
2kg Rice
Kapenta fish
Sugar
Sugar beans
Laundry soap
Candles
Matchsticks
